Savour the Senses: Banana Bread →
savourthesenses: I am usually a Zucchini Bread person, but I came home to some rotten bananas this weekend and my roommate had just left the country, so I decided to make use of them (Thanks Jordan!). I know there are a million different banana/zucchini bread recipes out there but I am convinced that mine, or I…

Day 5-Argentine Empanadas
Ok OK I may have skipped a couple of “A” countries, but I was really craving empanadas!! Dont worry I will get back on track as soon I find some veal bone marrow (ew) to make escudella for Andorran cuisine!! Ha!  Today’s dish takes us South to Argentina; the second largest country in South America. The cuisine of Argentina consists of a mix of indigenous and Criollo creations....

Day 4-Angola
Angola is a country in south-central Africa bordered by Namibia on the south, Democratic Republic of Congo on the north, and Zambia on the east; its west coast is on the Atlantic Ocean with Luanda as its capital city. Angola is a large country with many regional flavors and ethnic cultures, but one of the elements they have in common is the fact that Angolans like their food spicy. Angolan...

Day 3-Algeria
Today’s dish is a delicious Algerian Chicken Stew for Couscous (the National dish). It’s a very flavorful stew consisting of chicken or lamb, chickpeas, vegetables and tons of seasonings that simmer on the stove for hours, then served with a heap of steamed couscous to top it off. This was my favorite so far as the layers of flavor were something I had never experienced before,...

Day 2-Albania
OK Day 2 and this is Burek-A very popular dish in Albania. Sorry for the blurry pic!! Burek has many variations and can be made with a ground meat filling, a cheese filling or even spinach/feta filling. Albanian cuisine is influenced by many of its surrounding countries such as Greece, Turkey and Italy. I chose the meat filling and rolled them out into tube-like shapes instead of making it more...

Day 1-Afghanistan
So here is my first creation on my trip around the world-Qabili Palau. A lamb and basmati rice dish with carrots, raisins and Afghan spices. Traditionally, the meat is “hidden” under the rice. Maybe next time I would try this with chicken-the lamb was a bit different for our family’s taste but overall a really nice dish. The carrots were amazing and the aroma from the spices...

My new adventure...
I was incredibly inspired last night by the movie, “Julie&Julia” and want to embark on my own adventure into the infinite abyss of modern cooking. I have always loved to cook and love to try new things. My idea? To cook 1 recipe that is native to every country in the world and document my experience! This is going to take some major planning! More to come when I start compiling my recipes...
